Surname Prints
A Custom Designed Artwork - £200
Our Surname History Prints are designed to capture your family’s heritage, a journey through time. With our Patrilineal Lineage prints, we will trace the male line back to at least 1800, providing a detailed summary of individuals found during the course of the research. For our Matrilineal Lineage prints, your maternal line will be documented back to at least 1800. Each piece is individually created using personalised research into the history of your chosen surname or maternal line.
Whether you purchase this as gift, or for your own family line, your A3 print will be of the highest archival quality using Giclée printing to ensure it stands the test of time.
What does it mean to trace your Matrilineal or Patrilineal family line?
The terms matrilineal/patrilineal and maternal/paternal are often used interchangeably when talking about family history research. Simply put, if you were researching your maternal line, you are looking at all individuals on your mother’s side of the family. Equally, researching your paternal family means you are looking at all those on your father’s side of the family. Your matrilineal lineage, however, follows the female line back through your mother, and her mother, and her mother and so forth. Similarly, patrilineal lineage follows the male line from your father to his father and his father.
Why is the family line traced back to at least 1800 and not further?
In 1837 England and Wales began a national civil registration system for births, marriages and deaths, requiring these events to be reported to local registrars. These records, combined with census data, mean it is usually straightforward to trace your ancestor’s ‘paper trail’ back to the early 1800s. Going further back however requires parish records, which are both more complex to search with no guarantee of the correct individual being found. Researching further back is time intensive, and so beyond limitations of the prints we produce.
The Process: From Purchase to Print
Share your family details: When you purchase a print, you’ll be given the opportunity to provide any relevant family information which will help us begin the research. You’ll then receive a confirmation email detailing timescales (usually 4 weeks), and if needed, requesting further information.
We create your print: Once we have confirmed the completion date with you, we’ll get started on the research for your beautifully crafted print.
Approve your proof: Once complete, you’ll receive a digital copy of the print to review and request any changes.
Receive your print: Your finished print is delivered ready to frame.

Terms
Our prints are intended to give an illustrative overview of the patrilineal or matrilineal line of a chosen surname or family line. The research is not comprehensive, with only civil registration records used to establish the identity of each individual.
Occasionally, it is not possible to progress the research past a specific individual. In these instances, the client will be informed, with a refund offered where appropriate.
Documents sourced during the research process are not provided to the client when the project is complete.
If further, in depth research is requested following the completion of one of our prints, a quote will be provided to the client based on the research that has already been carried out.
